Furness A 10 v Millom A 37
Millom team:
Old Popper, Chubby, Ryan G, Callum, Kyle, Gary stew, Dave Thom, Simon, Popper, Lardy, Edgy, Luton, Shane, Phil Acky, Alex
Subs: Simo, Joe Moore, Munter
Millom started the game having to play uphill and against a strong wind all the advantages on the Furness side (15 points advantage I would have thought). Millom started the game the better having some short darting runs through the forwards before releasing the backs. Lardy taking the ball at the line feeding Luton who draws a man and passes to Shane, Shane trys to take the opposition on the out side but get caught and who’s backing him up only the ever present Luton and from the 22 he only had the fullback to beat so he threw a dummy and scored but sadly the conversion was missed. 4 minutes into the game Millom 5 Furness 0
Furness kick off and Millom look to run the ball against the wind and Alex Peel came
very close to breaking through but was caught and the ball was robbed of him. The
Millom defence stepped up their game again and stopped Furness from crossing the
line and Furness knocked
the ball on Millom Scrum. Millom Scrum played well against
a fair heavier pack with Old Popper, Chubby and Ryan driving the Furness pack back.
Millom moved the ball up the field and set up a ruck, at the ruck Old Popper took
a kick to his chin and was a bit dazed (a bit dazed means legs all over the place)
so we took him off and on came Simo as a replacement. The Ref gave a scrum to Furness
and they try a back move that didn’t work so they decided to kick for field position,
Alex collected the ball and went on a weaving run only to be caught by the collar
and as he tried to pass the ball he lost control and throw it into touch. Furness
Line out they win the ball and Furness with a 60 degree slop and wind with them trundled
forward and eventually crossed the Millom line with their Big Prop running through
or over Lardy and Lutey try which was . 17 Minutes Millom 5 Furness 7.
Millom made changes Munter on for Callum with Gary moving to 2nd Row. For the next 10 Minutes the play is kept between each other 10m line. That is until Lardy intercepts a pass about 30 yards out from the Millom line,( I’ll set a picture for you here he was running up hill against a strong wind on a very muddy pitch) he makes it over the half way line and I can’t make out if he’s tiring or he is slowing up so the support could catch him anyhow on the Furness 10 meter line he is caught and who is the speedy player in support but only Lutey who get caught 5 yards later but Simon is there to recover the ball. Forward runs from Ryan G, Simo, Dave Thom takes Millom into the Furness 22, but unfortunately they lose the ball and this allows Furness to Kick it down the field and relieve the pressure. Then Millom get penalised and Furness opt to take the 3 point. 33 minute Millom 5 Furness 10.
Old Popper back on for Simo. From the Kick off Millom recover the ball and Popper feed Chubby and with Chubby silky hands the ball get out to Shane who darts in between 2 defenders and scores under the sticks. With Callum off the field up steps young Edgy and easily converts. 35 minute Millom 12 Furness 10.
HALF Time score Millom 12 Furness 10
Subs on at half time Joe Moore on for Edgy, Callum back on for Kyle.
Now Millom are playing wind the wind and down the slope and right from the start Lardy shows the opposition what they should have done and puts a kick down the line and puts pressure on the full back with Acky and Alex chasing the kick. Millom recover the ball and go very close to scoring a try with Shane over the line for the ref to say the ball was held up. Millom Scrum and Furness do well to hold out until Millom Pack carry the ball forwards down the right hand side and Popper passes it out to the backs who pass it along the line (without dropping it) to Joe Moore wing for him to round his wing and score in the corner missed conversion. 48 Minute Millom 17 Furness 10
Furness kick off and make a briefly into the Millom half then try a little chip,
picked up by Alex who runs past 2 player and was just about to do the same with the
third, until the Furness player grabbed him around the neck and Millom got a penalty
40 yards out
. Ups steps Callum and converts it’s after it hitting the cross bar.
55 minute Millom 20 Furness 10
After that it was all Millom, Furness struggled to get out of their 22, this let Shane in for another try 60 minute converted by Callum Millom 27 Furness 10
Right from the kick off Millom forwards show there power and Lardys experience sends play deep into the Furness 22. From there Popper shows his skill and pace and darts over making it Millom 32 Furness 10, 65 minute.
Again from the Kick off Lardy kicks deep into the Furness half, Furness try to run it back at Millom but are caught inside Furness half. Millom forward pick up the pace and start running at the Furness pack gaining yards. The ball is then fed out to the Millom backs who nearly break through but are brought down 10 yards short. From there Popper crosses the line for his second and Millom last score game ends Millom 37 Furness 10
Thanks to all the forwards for all their hard work and to the backs for all their tackling and scoring the trys. Furness picked Popper as Man of the Match but for me it was Lardy with controlling the play and putting the pressure on Furness with his kicking

Millom A v Vale of Lune 4ths
Millom 2nd 34 Vale of Lune 4th 12
Vale turned expecting to win easily. Got f*****g stuffed. Their coach had a bit of a cry about it all. Millom 3rd in the league.
The end
Neals Report:
Very proud of the 2nd XV performance today. They thought they would run rings around us but were they wrong. Move the ball fast and use the width of the pitch - great strategy. While I was behind their sticks for our second try their coach said " for gods sake, they have only been in our half twice and they scored twice, they're garbage". An interesting point I though so I told him to go away in a roundabout sort of way. Keep it going lads.
Tony Parks Report:
Roy Park, Steven Watson, Tony Swales, Callum Lamont, Kyle Murphy, Gary Stewart, Mike Munroe, Simon Long
Peter Swales, Gareth Kendall, Shane Clark, Richard McMeekin, Ryan Edgler, Alex Peel, Mikey Holmes
Subs: Richard Preston, Chris Park, Joe Moyes, Wes Gardner, Andrew Simpson, Sam Armstrong
It was a great day for a game of rugby no wind, sun shinning but it was a bit cold.
Vale kick off, the ball is heading towards Callum,
who unfortunately knocks on and
Vale have a scrum just outside Millom’s 22. For the first 10 mins the game was inside
the Millom 22 but strong tackling kept the visitors at bay. 11 min into the game
Millom won a line out, passed the ball across the back line Young Edgy making yard
on the wing with support for Shane, but the ball from Edgy to Shane was a bit low
and Shane dropped it Scrum to Vale. From the Scrum Vale kick the ball down field
and Alex Peel collects it and set of on a weaving run passing a couple of the Vale
backs before get caught by Vale forwards but Millom secure the ball and young Popper
has a dart and feds it onto Lardy who passes to Munter and as Munter gets tackled
he passes the ball to Mikey Holmes coming at speed to cut through the Vale defence
to score Converted by Callum.
Millom despite having very little ball take the lead Millom 7 Vale 0, 13 minute.
Vale kick off Millom catch the ball and set it back Mikey who takes it forward and boots it high and long for Edgy to chase Vale full back claims the ball and Edgy tackles him (but damages his shoulder in the process). Vale start run only to knock the ball on this allows Millom to make a change Edgy comes off and debutant Wes Gardner comes on. From the Scrum Millom take the ball forward only to lose it this allows Vale to clear the ball down field and it bounces into touch around the Millom 22. From there Vale end up getting 4 Penalties on the trot and score a try, missed the conversion 7-5, 17 minutes.
Millom kick off Vale catch the ball and start to go forward and get up a head of steam and Millom try to keep them out and they do so for a while. Then form a maul everybody thought they were going on the blind side but then they run to the open and catch Lardy unaware and taking a breath only to run round him and two other defenders to score under the sticks and convert 7-12, 24 minute.
For the next 10 min the ball was played in-between the 22 with no one getting close to scoring a try. Until the 34 min Millom when Alex gets the ball breaks a tackle then sets up a ruck the ball gets passed out then turned back inside by Lardy old Popper takes it on supported by Chubby. The ball is given back to younger Popper, and Popper passes the ball to Lardy and on to Luton who passed onto Shane to break a tackle and crosses the line but with trying to make the conversion easier takes a knock on the head but still puts the ball down to score, unfortunately the conversion was missed 12-12, 35 minute Shane left the field for attention and Joe Moyes comes on also Callum comes off and Titch comes on as flanker moving Gary Stewart into 2nd row.
From the kick off Millom take the ball to the half way line then up steps Luton with
a shake of his hips he dummies Vale stand off and centre and set of on a run on reaching
the 22 he draws the full back and passes to the supporting Moyes who just manages
to cross the line and score. He picks himself up and converts his own try 19-12,
37 minute. Roy Park decides its time for a shake up and takes himself off and Simo
comes on.
Half time 19-12.
2nd half and Millom retain position and start to dominate the scrums culminating
in a few penalties for Millom. Winning the ball and passing it out to the wing Vale
have no answer and Wes Gardner
draws the full back and passes to Moyes to score his
second. Soon after he gets his 3rd in a similar sort of vain support Wes on a run
to pick up the pieces and score a try. Joe then leaves the field for Chris Park to
come on. More forward driving from the like of Kyle, Gary, Munter and Simon and making
the ball available for the backs out to Wes’s wing it goes and this time its Young
Popper supporting to score. Score is now 34-12 to Millom and at this stage you would
put it past Millom to score another 4 or 5 trys but unfortunately a Vale player had
a serious injury and the game was stopped in the 62 min so the result stands. Vale
player broke his shoulder and was seeing the specialist on Monday to see what they
would do.
Great performance again by the team but it didn’t look like it was going to be in them first 10 min of the game.
Thanks to Roy Park for turning out (injured) until Simo turned up. Another good performance
from Chubby
at hooker, forwards well lead by Simon, backs controlled by Lardy, Alex
for his Man of the Match
performance on the wing (after helping out and playing flanker
last week). And I can’t go without give a special thanks to the fast feet of Luton
and setting up Moyes try.
Good luck next week at home to Wigan if they turn up
Saturday 21st January 2012 - Tony Parks media report
Millom 2nd Vs Tarleton 2nd (cynical side of me says 1st)
Millom side:
Front row: Roy Park, Steven (Chubby) Watson, Ryan Gilleeney
Second Row: Callum Lamont, Tony (Popper) Swales
Back row: Gary Stewart, Alex (the nutter) Peel, Dave Thompson
Half backs: Gareth (Lardy) Kendall, Ricky D
Centres: Shane (I’ll tackle anything) Clark, Phil (I’ll stop anything) Atkinson
Back Three: Bud Knowles, Joe (you’ll never get past me) Moore and Mathew Broadbent
We turned up at Tarleton; the wind was very strong and blowing roughly across the
pitch. With no 1st team game for Tarleton we know it was going to be a hard game,
they looked big and well organised team.
Millom started the game with all the enthusiasm that they take to every rugby game, but they didn’t protect the ball as well as they could off and lost position. Tarleton started to attack and the tried to get through our 2 centres but Shane and Phil tackled with everything they had. So Tarleton tried a different tactic by driving into our forwards and with more of out forwards getting drawn into the mauls that Tarleton had set up, they had more people out wide than what Millom could defend against and Tarleton Score a try and converted it 7-0, 5 minutes into game.
Millom Kick off and Tarletons big second row caught the ball and started to drive forward before he was put on the deck by a tackle from Callum (wish he would do more of them). Tarleton recovered the ball and carried it through a couple of more phases but in the end they drive the Millom forwards back and their No 7 fed the No 6 who scored a try missed conversion 12-0, 10 minutes gone.
It doesn’t look good looks like its going to be high score. Millom kick off and with Shane following the ball put a big tackle in and dislodges the ball and Millom have a scrum. From the scrum Ricky D throws the ball out to Shane who makes a break but he is tackled on their 22 and we lose the ball and they kick for touch. With only one line out jumper in Dave Thom, we claim the ball Lardy passes the ball out to Ricky D who throws a miss ball (missing out Shane) collect by Phil Atkinson who then passes it onto Matty, who draws in a defender and feeds Bud running it their 22 before getting tackled into touch. Tarleton line out they win it the ball and they pass it throw a few hands and start moving forwards then they chip it over. Matty collects the kick passes it to Joe M, who drives into their centres sets the ball back Chubby picks it up and carries it another couple of yards goes to deck and as our forwards drive over the Ref give a knock on by Millom Scrum to Tarleton with their pack about 5 stone heavy then ours I didn’t hold out much hope of us winning the ball but with Roy and Ryan either side of Chubby, Chubby took the ball against the head. Dave Thom picked up the ball and passed it onto Alex (who hasn’t played in the forwards in his life) took the ball and went on a 20 yard run only to get pulled up 10 yards short of the line. We lose the ball and for the next 10 minutes it’s played in our 22 with a lot of tackling especially by Joe M, Shane, Phil, Lardy, Alex and Chubby. With 5 minutes left they manage to breach the Millom defensive line and go in for a try and convert it 19-0.
Half Time score Tarleton 19 - Millom 0
2nd half start with a break down the wing by Joe Moore supported by Alex Peel and Dave T making yards, but like the first half we lose the ball in there 22 and they clear the ball to touch. Lineout and Chubby throws in Dave T catches Millom set up a maul - Drive it forward. Lardy gets the ball as the forwards are going forward passes to Ricky D, who in turn passes to Shane who beats a man, then passes it onto Matty coming into the line from fullback. Matty passes the ball onto Bud who is caught 5 yards short but was able to off load the ball to Acky who goes into score in the corner, Callum steps up to take a difficult kick and only just misses 19-5. From the kick off Tarleton recover the ball and with one of their big South African forwards at full steam only to be brought crashing down by Acky great tackle, Millom recover the ball and kick it down the park. Millom seem to be gaining in confidence also with Lardy showing his experience and give the backs better ball, with Shane, Joe M backed up by the Flankers Alex and Gary making breaks only to be caught. Another line out that Tarleton win but Chubby manages to get his hands on the ball and set it up for Millom forwards to rumble up field and release the backs.
Again Ricky D chooses the right option and misses out Shane and passes to Matty joining the line breaking into Tarleton 22 he pass to Acky with only one men in front of him and Bud outside him looks like a certain try, but Acky get try fever and try’s to take on the defender only to get tackled (F**K UP) can’t blame him though, who knows through practise he might trusted his winger to score. Anyhow back to the game their winger (all 6 foot 6 of him) picked the ball up and ran 30 yards with Alex trying to bring him down in 20 of them 30 yards with support from Ryan Gill they got him into touch. Last 5 Minutes of the game they got a dubious try that Lardy swears was dropped over the line but the ref gave it and they miss the conversion. Final Score 24-5.
Not the result we were looking for but with most if not all their team first teamers it wasn’t bad and after the first 10 minutes I feared the worse. Let’s see the side they send up to Millom and then let’s put 50 points on them
Big thanks to Roy Park for coming out of retirement again to help us out. I’d like to thank Bud Knowles and Matthew Broadbent ever present on away game and I owe you both a few pints on the next one. I’d also like to thank Ryan Gilleeney for playing and putting in a good display, Alex Peel for playing at Flanker and starting a fight with the flanker who was a foot taller them him (Flanker next week alright mate). Popper for playing in the second row. Lardy for getting out of his drunken pit and Ricky D for turning up.
Man of the Match went to Chubby for all round display
If I’ve missed out stuff sorry but I was running touch as well
